Who We Are
We seek to be a “Go & Tell Church” as we pursue the Great Commission. We strive to provide every member the opportunity to grow in God’s grace through a better understanding of the Scripture, encouragement to holy living, and by reaching Sedalia and the world for Christ.
Bethany Baptist is a loving and gracious church family. We are excited about the opportunities for every member to grow in God’s grace and participate in reaching our world for Christ. Come join us this Sunday and see what we are about!
In the fall of 1954 three Baptist deacons planted a little mission on the north side of Sedalia, Missouri. Five years later, almost 80 souls became the initial congregation of newly constituted Bethany Baptist Church. We’re still here, worshiping and witnessing and working together for our Lord.
The New Testament teaches that the local church is like a family. Families grow and change and so has Bethany Baptist. We’ve built buildings and launched programs, but brick and mortar and program are just one small part of the story of a church. Bethany Baptist has seen many years of labor, struggle, growth, trials, joy, and fruitful ministry. After more than six decades, today’s congregation is just a portion of the fruit those first saints labored to gather. By God’s grace, we are just a portion of a bountiful harvest still to come!
What do we believe and teach? We are evangelical and conservative. We teach that God sent His Son to die for sinners and was raised from the dead to offer forgiveness and eternal life to all who turn to Him and trust in Him. We believe that the Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God, and sufficient to address every issue of life with complete authority. Our priorities are warm worship, expository preaching, evangelism and missions, and serving together in Christ.
Our worship services emphasize the clear preaching of the Scriptures, biblically sound hymns and familiar choruses, prayer, and loving fellowship. Like the large majority of evangelical churches today we are small, averaging around 100 worshipers in our Sunday morning service.
We are in friendly cooperation with The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). The SBC exists to help like-minded churches cooperate in planting churches across the globe, support theological training for future church leaders, and respond to global crises with our collective efforts. Together with 45,000 other congregations, we support some 5,000 missionaries across the world and another 5,000 within North America.
